Supermicro's DLC-2
Next-gen Direct Liquid coolingInnovative and Industry Leading Technology for Liquid-cooled Data Centers
Industry leading Data center Liquid-cooling
Supermicro’s Data Center Building Block Solutions (DCBBS) – extends their established system building block solutions and takes it to data center level. When powering high-density compute racks and running advanced AI workloads, it's bound to produce a decent amount of heat. Air-cooling will only take you that far. Supermicro realized that the current technologies were insufficient to cool the new AI optimized systems. The DLC-2 adresses the issues by utilizing liquid cooling, dense-compute optimized coolant routing infrastructure and cold plates to capture up to 98% heat.

Advantages of Liquid Cooling
Supermicro has further improved their liquid-cooling infrastructure but also found ways to reduce the cost of operating a data center. Outfitting a data center with Supermicro's DLC-2 is a great way to improve the whole infrastucture, get cutting-edge serviceability components and reduce OPEX with up to 40% and server operating cost with up to 89%. Other advantages are:
- Reducing the power consumption
- Dense-compute optimized infrastructure with up to 60% space savings
- Reducing water usage
- ~ 55% less server noise
The important aspects of supporting AI systems
Liquid cooling has become a critical part for data centers pushing the limit of computing power, uptime and efficiency. To optimally operate over time, systems and racks needs to be cooled down to reduce risks of overheating. It's expected that about 30% of data centers will use liquid-cooling as it's the most optimal method. This helps AI applications stay at the top of their game and also reduces costs in the long run compared to air-cooled racks.

Key DLC-2 components

Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU)
In-house developed in-rack or in-row CDU features 1+1 redundant hot-swappable pumps that circulate coolant to cold plates. 100kW or 250kW CDU.

Cold Plate Building Blocks
Cold plates helps to cover up to ~98% heat capture and can be mounted on top of CPUs, GPUs, DIMM modules, VRMs, PCIe Switches and more to effectively cool down critical components.

Coolant Distribution Manifold (CDM)
The CDMs distribute the coolant to each server in the rack and returns the hot coolant back to the CDU. Comes in horizontal and vertical versions for the best fit.

Hose kits and connectors
Hose kits are designed to easily connect liquid cooling racks water supply or cooling towers. To ensure seamless integration with existing facility piping and flexibility to fit your data center infrastructure.
